PROGRAM — Nevada Opportunity Scholarship

My name is Enoch Alcala and I’m in 11th grade. I’ve attended both public and private school. I’m currently in a private school and it has served me well. I am very introverted and in my previous public school, I was miserable. I didn’t have any friends. I did poorly in school, and I didn’t like it. I like my school now because it is a Christian school and I am Christian myself.  I feel like my faith will grow even more in a Christian school than in a public school.

I also like my school academically. There are smaller classrooms. Before there were 40-50 students in one class and now there are 10-15 students in my class. The attention I get from the teacher is greater. In my last school, the teacher had to divide her time between all these students, and I was failing. I also like how the kids in my current school act. They are more open, easy to talk to and are my friends. At my last school, because I am introverted, no one really talked to me.

My mom told me that I might not be able to attend this school again and my first thought was that I wouldn’t be able to compete high school. That I would never go to college or join the military or become a writer. I know that writers don’t make a lot of money at first, so I’d like to join the Marines or Coast Guard to help pay for college. I like the military lifestyle and serving my country in any way I can.
