PROGRAM — Charter School

Why did you become an educator?

I became an educator because one statistic kept me up every night. While watching an education documentary, I learned that prisons plan their future specifications according to how many 3rd grade black boys were on reading level. By the time a black boy reaches 3rd grade and is not on reading level, the chances of the child going to prison increases astronomically. I am looking to close the school to prison pipeline.

What do you love about your school?

I love that I work with teachers who are just as dedicated as I am to closing the achievement gap that exists in our black and brown communities.

Why is it important that lower income children can attend schools of choice?

Lower income students are at a disadvantage in terms of quality public education. We simply cannot wait until public schools magically fix themselves; we must change now, otherwise anything else is unfair to children.
