PROGRAM — ACE Scholarship

I am a 14 year old, 8th grade honor student at St. Augustine High School. I love to draw and volunteer in the local community in my free time. I have been volunteering at the Audubon Aquarium as a Jr. Aquarist for the past 2 years. I am a Youth Representative for Luv Your City, and I am also an Art Apprentice at the art program called YAYA. Giving back to my community makes me feel good.

My family chose for me to attend St. Augustine High School because it was a good choice for me to attend a Catholic High School based on the Christian and moral values that the school represents. By receiving the Ace Scholarship, it has made my Catholic education a little more affordable for my mom who is a single parent. It also allows me to attend a great school and to be able to obtain a quality education in Louisiana. Once I graduate this will allow me to further my education and go on to college.

“The scholarship allows a Catholic school education to be more manageable and affordable for single parents and low-income families to get the same opportunities as wealthy families.”

The first of three things I like about St. Augustine are the people that make up the school. I am able to meet and become friends with kids from all over the city of New Orleans. The second is the atmosphere. By attending a smaller school, it feels more like a family than a school. Finally, my teachers make sure I complete all my work in order for me to prepare for my future so I can get into college.

I believe more families should have the same privilege that I have had in receiving a scholarship. The ACE Scholarship allows kids, whose families cannot afford to pay tuition, to receive a quality education in Louisiana. The scholarship allows a Catholic school education to be more manageable and affordable for single parents and low-income families to get the same opportunities as wealthy families.

School choice means that families have a choice in the type of education their children will receive. My mom and I were able to make a choice for me to attend a Catholic school because it was right for me. I was able to choose St. Augustine High School from all the schools in New Orleans, even though they charge tuition.

I would like for all the single moms and parents with low incomes to know that your kids do have an opportunity to go to quality schools and be able to further their education on to colleges with these different scholarships. So, do it for the future of your kids and apply for the programs that are available!
