I became an educator because I believe that education can have a significant and lasting impact on the lives of children. I wanted to be able to touch a child’s life in a way that could be life changing. In the more than two decades that I’ve been an educator, there have been those moments along the way when the course of a student’s life changed because of something I said or did. I’m still in this profession because of those moments. There’s no greater joy than seeing students you’ve taught go on to become successful, contributing citizens. What’s even more fulfilling is when they turn to say it was because of you.

I love that Family Worship Christian Academy cares deeply about our students and their families. I love seeing the smile on students’ faces both as they arrive each day and as they leave. I love hearing parents acknowledge how much they and their child love their school. I didn’t grow up with those kinds of experiences in school. The connection we make with our students and parents is truly priceless.
I personally believe that life should afford us every available option in as many things as possible. Just as we all have to eat to live, we don’t necessarily have the same tastes in food. What may be a scrumptious meal to one may be a complete flop to another. Thankfully, there are a plethora of options to suit nearly every palette. Why would we, then, insist on offering everyone the same plate in education? Wouldn’t we all be more satisfied and satiated with the meal that suits our taste? And, because we’re talking about a fundamental right that belongs to every child equally, it certainly isn’t fair to decide where those with less must eat while those with more enjoy fine dining simply because they can afford it.
The Louisiana Federation for Children is such a blessing. I’m grateful to have this organization fighting daily to ensure that our families have a choice and a voice when it comes to education.
