PROGRAM — Traditional Public District School

Why did you become an educator?

I became an educator to provide a distinguished education to those students categorized as minorities and who have limited resources to be successful. I didn’t just want to teach students about content but also to expose them to the world and how to thrive in it as they navigate growing older.

Students also have to deal with issues at home and inside their community that can manifest in the classroom. So by offering hope, love, and social emotional assistance they can overcome those daily challenges.

What do you love about your school?

I love the students first, they keep me coming back every year, with their diverse personalities and resilience. I also love my colleagues as they are my true support system in managing the workload and in my tenacity to combat the inequities within the public school system.

Why is it important that lower income children can attend schools of choice?

It is very important that lower income children attend schools of choice as it represents an opportunity for them to break the cycle of poverty and enhance their chances of being able to give back to their communities.
