Senator Ted Cruz Joins the American Federation for Children to Tour The Imani School in Houston as Education Freedom Expands
DALLAS, Texas – U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and the American Federation for Children’s Ashling Preston today toured The Imani School in Houston. They met with families benefiting from the Texas Education Freedom Account (TEFA) program and discussed the upcoming launch of the federal Education Freedom Tax Credit (EFTC)

TEFA has made more than 122,000 awards across the state and was the largest day-one program launch in the history of school choice. The Imani School, a private Christian school serving students from preschool through eighth grade, serves 402 students, 60 of whom are TEFA recipients.
During his visit, Senator Cruz met with students across grade levels, toured classrooms, and joined a roundtable discussion with parents and school leaders about the impact of school choice on their families.
Senator Cruz played a leading role in advancing the EFTC, which will bring new scholarships to millions of children in Texas and nationwide starting in 2027. New research from Dr. Patrick Graff of the American Federation for Children estimates that 52 million K-12 students nationwide – including 5.4 million in Texas – will be eligible for EFTC scholarships.

Statement from Ashling Preston, Director of Federal Affairs, American Federation for Children:
“The Imani School serves as a powerful example of what becomes possible when we trust parents to choose the education that works best for their children. Senator Cruz has been a steadfast champion for giving families greater freedom in their children’s education. His leadership was instrumental in making the Education Freedom Tax Credit a reality, creating an opportunity to deliver school choice to millions of students across the country.
AFC appreciates the opportunity to help arrange this impactful visit. We are grateful for Senator Cruz’s continued leadership as Texas and the nation enter this new era of education freedom.”
Statement from Senator Ted Cruz:
“It was inspiring to visit The Imani School and see firsthand the incredible work its teachers and staff are doing to prepare the next generation of Texas students. What I saw today underscores why I have long said that school choice is the civil rights issue of the 21st century. Last year, I was proud to deliver the largest federal school choice program in history, which will unleash billions of dollars in new scholarships for K–12 students across the country. Millions of children will now have the opportunity to attend schools like The Imani School and receive a quality education, regardless of their ZIP code or income.”
