American Federation for Children Congratulates Governor Kathy Hochul on Reelection
DALLAS, Texas – The American Federation for Children congratulates New York Governor Kathy Hochul on her reelection, recognizing her decision to bring the federal Education Freedom Tax Credit (EFTC) to New York families. Hochul became the second Democratic governor to announce support for opting into the historic federal tax credit, joining Governor Jared Polis of Colorado.
With Hochul’s commitment to the EFTC, approximately 2.7 million New York K–12 students could be eligible for scholarships following the credit’s launch on January 1. EFTC scholarships will help families access educational opportunities ranging from tutoring and specialized services to private school tuition.
Statement from Tommy Schultz, CEO, American Federation for Children:
“Congratulations to Governor Kathy Hochul on her reelection. We applaud her willingness to look beyond party politics and embrace a life-changing opportunity for millions of New York children. By supporting the Education Freedom Tax Credit, Governor Hochul has taken an important step toward giving families educational options that have long been unavailable to them.
“We hope other Democratic governors will follow her lead. Educational opportunity shouldn’t be a partisan issue, and no family should miss out on scholarships simply because of the political affiliation of their governor. Governor Hochul has shown that leaders from both parties can put politics aside to prioritize children and families by advancing school choice.”
About the American Federation for Children:
The American Federation for Children is the nation’s largest school choice advocacy organization and is dedicated to empowering families, especially lower-income families, with the freedom to choose the best K–12 education for their children.
