PROGRAM — Charter School

Why did you become an educator?

My experience at Cypress Middle School in Memphis, TN is what inspired me to become an educator. My teachers gave me a voice and hope for my future. When they expressed their belief in me, I started to believe in myself. Their love and dedication to us is what motivated me to teach. At the core, I am my best self when I am advocating and fighting for my students.

What do you love about your school?

My school fosters a safe environment for me to push my students to succeed. We acknowledge that our students are experiencing trauma, but they still deserve to be educated despite the barriers that exist.

Why is it important that lower income children can attend schools of choice?

Every child deserves an equitable education. Having choice gives families ownership in advocating for their children. Liberation is not forced, but rather achieved with effort, opportunity, and resources.
