My name is Mary Armas and this is my story. My son started public school at the age of four. He repeated 1st grade due to his slow learning. I always asked for support in his school to improve his grades, but he was not advancing in his learning and things didn’t get better. One day I met Valeria Gurr and through her, I attended an event where I found out that there were more school options. The previous school year we had applied to a charter school, but we were not accepted. However, I did not give up. I applied again and to my surprise, they accepted my son.
What I like the most about his charter school is that on the second day of class, his teachers already knew him by name and very kindly introduced themselves to me, His level of learning has improved a lot and his stress has decreased a lot. Even though he attended school for a short time because of the Coronavirus, even doing the distance learning, the teachers are still concerned about his learning. I am very happy and grateful, and I have a message for the Hispanic community: Come to events when they are back on, or look online. There are better options for the education of our children and remember that knowledge is power when applied.

Mi nombre es Mary Armas y esta es mi historia; mi hijo asistió a escuelas públicas desde los 4 años de edad, el repitió el 1er grado debido a su lento aprendizaje, yo siempre pedí apoyo en su escuela para que el mejorara sus grados pero aún así no podía avanzar en su aprendizaje, un día conocí a Valeria Gurr y por medio de ella asistí a un evento donde me enteré que había más opciones de aprendizaje, el ciclo escolar anterior aplique para las Chater School pero no fui aceptada sin embargo no me rendí y aplique de nuevo, y en esta ocasión si aceptaron a mi hijo.
Lo que más me sorprendió es que al segundo día de clase sus maestros ya lo conocían por su nombre y muy amables se presentaron conmigo, su nivel de aprendizaje ha mejorado mucho y su estrés mejoró bastante.
Aunque ha asistido poco tiempo a la escuela por la cuestión del Coronavirus, aún a la distancia los maestros se siguen preocupando por su aprendizaje. Estoy muy feliz, agradecida y tengo un mensaje para la comunidad de habla hispana, debemos informarnos ya que existen mejores opciones para la educación de nuestros hijos y recuerden el conocimiento es poder cuando se aplica de la manera correcta.
