PROGRAM — Empowerment Scholarship Accounts Program

My name is Joaquin Tejeda and I’m 21 years old. I attend Aspire Academy. I like my school because my mother found it and not me. Two, I met Dr. June and she’s been supporting my family since we met her. She said to come to Aspire. I’m just so grateful I’m able to stay in this school longer than other schools that I have been to. I’m allowed to stay until I’m 24 which is best for me. Other schools don’t have other opportunities that I have, and I’m grateful to be at Aspire. I’ve met so many people that have changed my life. I have a lot of friends in school.

For a typical day, I start with math, then go to art and then STEAM. After that, I go to English, lunch and then social skills. I love every class. It’s more beneficial for me to stay in school longer. I’m grateful that I am able to get hired and work there if I wanted to. I want to help little kids. I want to enjoy my time, and have fun with my coworkers.

I have a lot of hobbies. I listen to 80s music, I read books, I like watching Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. It’s been incredible what he’s done in the past 14 years.

ESA is so important, not only for me, but for my parents. They want me to have a better life than they had. I want to leave a legacy in the school. I’ll do whatever it takes to have a good future. I’m thankful for the school and everything they have done for me. I’m willing to fight for ESAs.

Being in this school has made me successful; it made me stronger. It’s better being at a school where the people like me. I work hard each day and don’t give up.

My mom is great. She’s done a lot for me. She has found me the best doctors, found me the best school. It takes a lot of guts to do everything that my mom did. She takes me to trainings on the weekends. She helps me to be independent. That is really awesome. She thinks I can do anything. When I started school, I felt like such a rookie.

I talk to God and pray every day. I’m thankful for my mom and for God and for the people in school. I’m thankful to everyone who has helped me get to where I am today.

I want to thank my dad as well, because he’s made me the son I am. He’s made me an awesome person. He tells me every day that I’m a brave soldier whatever happens. He tells me that I have a good heart, a good soul, and he always tells me that he wants me to have a better life than he had. I want to have a better life. To give back to myself and my parents and to be happy. I love my parents very much.
