PROGRAM — Nevada Opportunity Scholarship

My name is Briana Bradford and I have two kids in school. They both have the Opportunity Scholarship. My oldest is in third grade and has had the scholarship since first grade. My youngest is in second grade and has had the scholarship since kindergarten.

It means everything to us to have the scholarships. My kids would not be able to attend their school without it. I’m a stay-at-home mom and my husband works, so we only have one income. Recently, we moved out of our family’s house and so we are paying rent, bills, and everything else by ourselves. It would be impossible with one income to pay for my kids to go to school as well. If we didn’t have the scholarships, we wouldn’t have a choice but to send them to public school. I would also look into homeschooling as a possibility if we couldn’t go to our current school.

My sister and I went to the same school as our kids. We know a lot of the faculty and staff. I also like the smaller class sizes, and they get better attention from the teachers. I think the curriculum is better and the students are more challenged.

Tons of families and children are depending on these scholarships. When I told my kids that they might have to attend another school, they were very upset. It isn’t fair to the parents if they can’t afford it. With one income, there are other things that we have to worry about and we shouldn’t have to worry about whether we are able to send our kids to the school of our choice or not.
