During this legislative session, the Idaho Legislature has an opportunity to pass its first private school choice program.

House Bill 447 – known as the Idaho Parental Choice Tax Credit Program – would create a refundable tax credit for Idaho students.

If the proposed legislation passes, every household in Idaho would be eligible for a refundable tax credit of up to $5,000 per child to attend a private school of their choice.

Families can use the credit for qualifying education expenses to reduce their state tax payments. In cases where a family’s required state tax payment is smaller than the credit amount, the family will receive a payment from the state.

This will help parents cover qualifying expenses, such as the cost of private school tuition and fees, tutoring, and transportation. Importantly, this bill will allow parents to ensure that their child’s education aligns with their values.
