Why did you become an educator?

I became an educator because growing up I had amazing teachers. They inspired me to work hard and to stay focused. I became an educator because I wanted to help students learn and grow into strong independent individuals that would help to make the society we live in better. I want my students to help not just their families but their community as well. I want to show my students how far they can go with a firm, sound, well-rounded education. I became an educator so that the students I serve could see someone that looks like them doing something she loves and living well.

What do you love about your school?

My colleagues are awesome. We all have different options and thoughts at times but we find a way to work together as a team. We collaborate constantly and keep the success of our students first and foremost in all of our endeavors. My administration is the absolute best. They expect us to excel and provide us with the resources to do just that. We are allowed to actually teach our students and are not bombarded with needless paperwork. My administration shows that they card about us and our students.

Why is it important that lower income children can attend schools of choice?

Lower income students are already in a disadvantaged situation economically. Allowing them to choose the type of school that suits their needs gives them an opportunity to experience life outside of their neighborhood. It helps them learn how to build relationships with students outside of their race and socioeconomic status. This I believe will help to build strong character, work ethic, and communication skills, as well as interpersonal relationships.
