PROGRAM — Charter School

“A better tomorrow starts with equal opportunity.”

Why did you become an educator?

I became an educator for many reasons, particularly from personal experiences with my teachers growing up. As a child in grade-school, you experience different types of teachers. Some teachers love what they do; it’s heir passion. Some teachers teach just to get by. Snd you begin to distinguish the two. At my local high school, there was an overwhelming number of educators who did not love their job. I vowed to become an educator because I have a passion for teaching, a passion for children, and a passion for imparting the knowledge i have received. I became an educator because I want to be the teacher that I did not have when I was in school.

What do you love about your school?

What I love most about my school is the amazing staff members. At Veritas College Prep, we are truly a team. Even when we are in the classrooms, teaching by ourselves, we are supported by other team members in a way that holds everything together. I have never met more people who are invested in their students’ lives. Veritas was the very first school I had been in and witnessed the principal acknowledge every student by name. Very seldom, growing up, did your principal know every student’s name, at least not at the schools i attended.

Why is it important that lower income children can attend schools of choice?

It is important that children of lower income can attend schools of their choice because they should have equal opportunity as children of higher income. It is important that these children know it doesn’t matter where you came from, it’s about where you are going. A better tomorrow starts with equal opportunity.
