PROGRAM — Opportunity Scholarship Fund

Written by Kurt’s grandmother, Judy.

I became a single parent to my grandson, Kurt, when he was just a few months old. I worked extremely hard, juggling multiple jobs and going back to college when he was three years old.

Kurt attended his local public school until he was in the third grade but complained daily about the way teachers treated him. He was internalizing the negative way they spoke to him.

Kurt hated school and was developing emotional problems. At that moment, I knew I needed to put him in a place where he could truly thrive.

I discovered Kurt could attend a private school thanks to the Opportunity Scholarship Fund.

“His overall mental, spiritual and physical health has improved immensely.”

Kurt was able to complete fourth grade at the Muskogee Seventh Day Adventist Christian Academy, and I cannot even begin to put into words the difference it has made in this young man’s life! He loves his school, his teachers and his peers! This opportunity has taken an extreme amount of stress from our small family.

Kurt is no longer a stressed-out little boy who dreads going to school. His overall mental, spiritual and physical health has improved immensely. He feels like he matters and that he is important. He is now in an environment he can trust and focus on being the best student and person he can be!

I believe many children are struggling in public schools. Many are likely hoping for something better. I would advise families to look into the Opportunity Scholarship Fund or any other option that works best for them. It has made a tremendous difference in our lives and I hope it can make a difference for many other families.
