AFC Urges Texas Legislators to Reject Anti-School Choice Budget Amendments
Dallas, Texas – The American Federation for Children urges Texas legislators to reject any anti-school choice amendments slated for consideration ahead of Thursday’s biennium budget vote. Such amendments are misleadingly framed, and are intended to strip parents of the right to direct their children’s educational future.
Statement from Nathan Cunneen, Texas State Director, American Federation for Children:
“Among the hundreds of proposed amendments to the budget bill are particularly cruel ones designed to wrench power from parents seeking educational freedom. Amendments that reduce funding for what will be the nation’s largest day-one school choice program circumvent the will of Texas voters.
“The polling is clear. The results at the ballot box are clear. Texans want school choice. Lawmakers must deliver it and reject any amendments that undermine it.”
