AFC Reacts to Reduction in Department of Education Staff

The American Federation for Children (AFC) responds to reports that the Department of Education, under Secretary Linda McMahon’s leadership, will reduce the Department’s workforce by nearly 50%, focused on redundant positions.

Statement from Tommy Schultz, CEO, American Federation for Children

“President Trump made it clear that he intended to shutter the Department of Education and advance school choice across the country, and Secretary Linda McMahon will waste no time reining in one of our country’s greatest failed public policies, the centralization of American education. For a generation, our nation’s education system has been held hostage by bureaucrats and schooling unions who care only about preserving their own power, not the needs of American students. During that time, the Department of Education has ballooned in size while our students have fallen further and further behind. This news is another signal that the bureaucratic state is coming to an end in America, ushering in a golden age in American education that is centered on sending education back to the states and parents. The time is now for school choice in every state and dismantling the federal education bureaucracy.”
