Our daughter Elizabeth is in the 5th grade and has struggled with learning for most of her life. She has been diagnosed with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia, which have made reading, writing, and math especially challenging for her.
Over the years, we tried several different educational settings in an effort to help her succeed. She attended public school, and we also tried homeschooling through a co-op. While both experiences had some positives, Elizabeth still struggled significantly, and we often felt that we could not find the specialized help she truly needed.
Everything began to change when we discovered the Pearl Center for Learning. The educational therapy they provide is specifically designed for children with learning differences like Elizabeth’s. For the first time, she is receiving instruction that is tailored to the way her brain learns.
The Education Scholarship Trust Fund scholarship has made this possible for our family. Without that support, the specialized educational therapy she receives at the Pearl Center would have been financially out of reach for us.
Because of this opportunity, Elizabeth is not only improving academically, but she is also gaining confidence. Instead of feeling discouraged about school, she is beginning to believe that she can learn and succeed.
For our family, this scholarship has truly opened the door to the help Elizabeth needs, and it has made a life-changing difference in her education and her future.
Families should not be limited in their ability to help their children simply because of financial barriers. The reality is that the school a child is assigned to is not always the environment where that child can thrive.
School choice gives families the ability to pursue what is best for their child’s unique needs. For many children, it can mean the difference between years of frustration and finally experiencing success and confidence in learning.
Every family should have the freedom to seek the environment where their child can flourish, because education is not one-size-fits-all.
