PROGRAM — Georgia Promise Scholarship

As a Black mother, I often fear the lack of resources in my community. If I receive this scholarship, my daughter, Faith, will have opportunities that I didn’t have. The Georgia Promise Scholarship gives me a say in what’s best for my child. This level of support is needed not only for my child but also for families in my community.

“Seeing my daughter struggle in public school broke my heart. There were times when I didn’t know if I could help her. This scholarship gives me hope.”

Education shouldn’t be political; it should be accessible to all. As we know, in America, this is not always the case. This is one of the reasons our school system suffers today. Without a proper education, who will become our doctors, nurses, lawyers, teachers, and other professionals? Not having access to education is like saying we have to pay for air.

A family’s income should not determine the quality of education a child can receive or how far that child can go in life. Today, not being able to afford a good education is one of the reasons some kids don’t make it out of the hood.

I work in an educational setting as a Head Start teacher, which is a free program. Many of my students’ families may not have the opportunity to send their children to a good school. I know firsthand how important access to a quality education is, not only for my daughter but for every child in my community.
