As a mother and an educator, I’ve seen how differently children learn, grow, communicate, and thrive. The right school is not necessarily the school that is closest to your home or the one assigned by your ZIP code.
The option to apply for the Georgia Promise Scholarship will give me the opportunity to fully homeschool my daughter and purchase an accredited curriculum. The school district, Jefferson County, that I reside in currently has very low testing, low literacy rates, high school dropouts, and teen pregnancy. This is not an environment that I feel my daughter would thrive in.
I believe the impact of her having the opportunity to learn in a safe environment and smaller group size will help her in her pursuit of higher education. Every child deserves the freedom and resources to pursue the educational path that they believe will help their child flourish. I believe every child deserves access to an education that sees them as an individual and this is what Georgia Promise Scholarship will allow me to do for my daughter. I believe every family, regardless of income, should have the ability to choose the educational environment that best meets their child’s needs because children are not one-size-fits-all and neither is education.

For another it may be a charter school, private school, homeschool, microschool, or another educational method.
School choice, to me, is not about saying one type of school is better than another. It is about giving families meaningful options. I believe education is one of the most important investments we can make in a child’s future. If we truly want every child to have an opportunity to thrive then opportunity cannot depend solely on a family’s ability to pay.
