PROGRAM — Education Scholarship Trust Fund

The South Carolina Education Scholarship Trust Fund program has been life-changing for my two kids, Miles and McKinley. My son has medical special needs, and traditional schools simply could not meet them. We were constantly trying to make him fit into a system that was not built for him. With this scholarship, we were able to create a learning environment around his health, his pace, and his strengths.

For our daughter, McKinley, it has meant the freedom to learn deeply and creatively. She is able to move at her own pace, explore her interests, and love learning instead of just managing it. This was not just about school choice. It was about giving both of our children stability, dignity, and the opportunity to truly thrive.

Every child is different, and no single school model can meet every child’s needs. Education is not one size fits all. Families know their children best, and the ability to choose the right learning environment should not depend on income or zip code. Wealthy families have always had options. Expanding school choice simply ensures that middle- and lower-income families have access to the same opportunity to pursue what works best for their child.

This is about recognizing that educational success looks different for different children. When families are empowered to choose, children are more likely to thrive academically, emotionally, and socially. Equal access to choice creates a more equitable system, not a less fair one.
