Majority of Texans Support New School Choice Law
Dallas, Texas – Newly released statewide polling from Texas Southern University’s Barbara Jordan Institute shows nearly two-thirds of Texans support the state’s recently passed school choice program.
“64% percent of Texans support the Texas Legislature’s decision in 2025 to pass legislation (SB-2) creating Education Savings Accounts, while 36% oppose this decision,” the Houston-based Public Policy Research and Survey Center’s report notes.
The survey, conducted in May, included 1,200 registered voters.
The polling results demonstrate Texans across the political spectrum support ESAs. Broken down by political party, 78% of Republicans, 68% of Independents, and 45% of Democrats support the passage of SB-2.
Results show broad support for school choice across multiple demographics. Black, white, and Latino Texans support the measure at 66%, 62%, and 65%, respectively. Texans from urban (69%) and rural (62%) counties also support SB-2.
