AFC Congratulates Governor Kehoe, Missouri Leaders for Funding School Choice

The American Federation for Children (AFC) congratulates Missouri legislators for passing a budget including $50 million for school choice and sending it to Governor Mike Kehoe’s desk. This funding will empower Missouri families to access the educational setting that is best suited for their children.

Gov. Kehoe and his administration prioritized school choice and are delivering on their promise to voters. The Governor is expected to sign the budget bill.

Statement from Ryan Cantrell, VP of Government Affairs, American Federation for Children:

“Governor Kehoe’s steadfast leadership paved the way to securing education freedom for even more Missouri families. We thank Budget Chair Deaton and other members of the committee for their support in passing this bipartisan bill. AFC also extends our deep appreciation to the many parents and school choice advocates who added their voices to the chorus demanding educational options.

“Limited funding for the state’s wildly popular school choice program had left too many students to languish on the sidelines. This budget will get more of those families into the game. We eagerly anticipate the day when every Missouri family can exercise their right to education freedom.”

Details:

  • Governor Kehoe initially proposed an additional $50 million in state funding to expand access to school choice
  • Missouri’s legislature approved $50 million for school choice in its annual budget
  • This funding could provide scholarships for more than 7,000 students
  • This funding will expand upon the state’s existing school choice offerings
