AFC Celebrates Mississippi House for Passing House Bill 2 to Expand School Choice
Dallas, Texas – The American Federation for Children applauds the Mississippi House for passing the Mississippi Education Freedom Act, a substantial and long-needed school choice advancement for families in the state. Now, the Senate will consider the measure.
Sponsored by House Speaker Jason White and Representative Jansen Owen, House Bill 2 creates Magnolia Student Accounts and establishes funding to support school choice statewide. If enacted, it would provide school choice to 12,500 students in year one, while prioritizing low-income and working-class families and expanding over time. HB 2 also includes a slate of key reforms to existing school choice and K-12 education in the state.
