Frankie and Ruby are my grandchildren, and I adopted them at a very young age. Frankie was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. By fifth grade, he still could not read. I was repeatedly told that he might never read, but that was something I simply could not accept.
Dr. Rosario Montgomery has been Frankie’s psychologist since he was three years old. She later opened a school for children with learning differences and invited Frankie to attend TAMRA Learning Academy. In his very first year there, Frankie began to read and write, and his math skills improved significantly. Now, four years later, he reads chapter books and writes essays, something I was once told might never happen.
Frankie’s sister, Ruby, also attends TAMRA. She has ADHD and an auditory processing disorder. At TAMRA, both children are thriving academically, learning across multiple grade levels (4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th). Frankie and Ruby are receiving the individualized education they truly need to succeed.
This opportunity has been a tremendous blessing. I truly believe that every parent should have the choice to place their child in a learning environment like TAMRA.
As a single, low-income household, being able to continue my children’s education at TAMRA without the constant worry of how I will pay tuition each year is nothing short of an answered prayer.
While teachers are often overworked and underpaid, they are required to follow a set curriculum for each class. Even when a child falls behind, they must continue moving forward. The teacher-to-student ratio is often too high for teachers to provide the individual attention that some children need in certain subjects.
This program gives parents the resources and flexibility they need to ensure their children receive the education that best meets their individual needs and builds their self-confidence.
