I have attended St. Mary’s Academy since I was four years old in their Pre-K program. I can personally say that my experience at the school has been amazing. It has been wonderful to be around so many young black girls that are my age. I have been able to form a sisterhood at this school that I’m not sure I would be able to do elsewhere.
The environment here is definitely like a family; My favorite teacher is my former Pre-K teacher, Ms. Venus. I am a junior now, and despite her not teaching me through every grade she still has checked on me and made sure I was doing okay!
I feel like I have received a high-quality education at St. Mary’s. The school cares about your academics, and they care about how you are doing outside of the classroom. My mom initially did not know much about St. Mary’s, but she knew that she wanted me to go to a school that cared for my well-being in and out of the classroom. My mom fell in love with the school during her visit, and she knew this was where her child should be.
The school has helped me develop leadership skills. My academic advisor is always pushing me to try new things. Right now, I am running for Secretary of the Student Council. Both my mom and my academic advisor are pushing me to try new things, and I’m not sure what I would do without their endless support.
“My goal is to own my own business, become an investor, and pursue acting in New York.”
I have a lot planned after I graduate. My goal is to own my own business, become an investor, and pursue acting in New York. I have always loved the idea of New York, and I hope to either attend The American Musical and Dramatic Academy or New York University.
I am attending St. Mary’s Academy thanks to a tax-credit scholarship. Not every family can afford to send their child to the best school. But, I feel that it is important that kids receive the education they deserve; they shouldn’t be sent to just any school. All kids should have the opportunity to go to a school that they like. I am extremely grateful to receive a scholarship to attend St. Mary’s, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
