Mi nombre es Sandra León y mi hija hace dos años que usa la beca de la oportunidad. Mi cuñada trae a su niña a St. Christopher Catholic School y ella me comentó acerca de la beca para que nuestro hijo pudiera ir a una escuela privada. Y fue por ella que supe de estas becas.
Mi hija pasó dos años en otra escuela, una pública y la calidad era muy diferente. No tengo nada en contra de las escuelas públicas, pero se nota la diferencia. Sobretodo, veo que en la privada se dedican y se enfocan precisamente en tus hijos, en los problemas que tienen, qué necesitan más. Se enfocan en su aprendizaje con cariño. Tratan a los alumnos como una familia, y es muy lindo.
Mi hija es muy tímida. Era una niña insegura de sí misma en la escuela. Pese a eso, ha avanzado mucho en lo académico. Es una niña inteligente, pero le cuesta un poquito aprender. Por eso sus maestros se toman más tiempo con ella. Entonces, ahora aprende más rápido.
A mi manera de ver, si todos los niños tuvieran este tipo de oportunidades, su niveles académicos serian más altos. No es que las escuelas públicas no puedan impartir una educación similar, pero tienen muchísimos más niños que atender. En las escuelas privadas hay menos y se pueden enfocar más en la educación, en que los niños estén realmente capacitados. Yo pienso que si cada familia tuviera esta oportunidad, sus hijos estarían mucho mejor académicamente.
Desde hace dos años, en la escuela a la cual va mi hija se nos hace sentir como una familia. Se preocupan por ella y se preocupan por que los padres estén enfocados con los niños en cuanto a lo que están aprendiendo.
Si me quitaran la beca y tuviera que sacar a mi niña de aquí, seria como una especie de divorcio, muy doloroso, tanto para mi niña como para mí. A los legisladores, les diría que POR FAVOR nos apoyen. Si quieren que este país progrese, la manera en que se puede progresar es dándole a la gente una buena educación.
En México tuve mi carrera, pero aquí desafortunadamente y por situaciones del destino, no la pude ejercer. No es el mismo nivel de vida que uno tiene cuando goza de una educación, cuando uno tiene una preparación. Una carrera nos permite salir a delante y no tener que aceptar cualquier tipo de trabajo. Es la clave para un futuro mejor.

In my opinion, if all children had these kinds of opportunities, their academic levels would be higher. It is not that public schools cannot provide a similar education, but they have too many children to give proper attention to each one and their learning style. In private schools, there are fewer students and the teachers can focus more on education. I think that if every family had this opportunity, their children would be much better academically.
For two years, at the school my daughter attends, they have made us feel like we’re part of a family. They care about us and they make sure the kids are focused on what they need to learn to succeed.
If they took away our scholarship and I had to take my daughter out of St. Christopher, it would feel like a divorce; it would be very painful for my entire family.
To legislators, I would say PLEASE support us. If you want this country to progress, the way to do that is by giving our kids a good education.

In Mexico, I had my career, but unfortunately and due to destiny, I could not have the same career here in the US. It is important to have a good education, because a career allows us to get ahead and not have to accept any type of job. It is the key to a better future.
