MYLES SLADE-BOWERS

BACK TO STORIES

There are many programs, like the tax credit scholarship program, that devoted and hard working officials have worked to put in place that allowed me to go to the school I attend today, one of the greatest high schools in Pennsylvania.

Being able to choose the environment in which you learn is crucial not only for the student but also for the parent. It means a student will be properly engaged in school. A school is more than a building, it’s a curriculum that’s challenging and interesting that pulls a child in to ask the difficult questions and apply knowledge from other experiences.

From a family standpoint, parents or guardians know their child best and the way in which they learn. Children are more comfortable discussing that with their family than with school administrators or teachers. Together they can make a conscious decision about what is best.

As a school choice advocate and beneficiary, I’ve had the opportunity to intern for a think tank and work to support expanding school choice to more communities and for more children. I’ve been on the radio, visited the Capitol, and I was able to sit with the President and Secretary of Education to talk about the importance of education freedom.
