With the current state of public education in our area, our family felt it was important to pursue alternate educational resources. We knew that private education was the key to offering the best possible outcomes for our children. We spent a considerable amount of time searching for scholarship funding, and are most grateful for the support we (finally) found in the school choice community.
We chose a high school noted for teaching with technology. That proved to be quite an advantage when the quarantine hit and we were forced to finish the 2020 school year entirely online. Unlike several surrounding public institutions, our private school was able to shift to the distance model in a virtually seamless manner. Our children continued their learning through the scheduled end of the school year. I am convinced they will be months ahead of their peers in terms of the concepts covered and their ability to pivot to uncharted educational territory. We owe a debt of gratitude to those who made this school choice possible for us.

We feel strongly that all families should be afforded the opportunity that school choice allows. Whether based on special needs, special interests, extra-curricular opportunities, academic supports, or faith, schools of the 21st century can no longer function in a one-size-suits-all environment. The excellence and advantages of private education, once reserved for the well-funded and well-connected, should be made available and attainable to all. I observed this in my own family, as my son discovered a new passion for cybersecurity through his involvement with exceptional co-curricular offerings at private school. In fact, he would probably not be pursuing the STEM major he has chosen, were it not for the interests and talents stirred up in him. There is no price tag on finding one’s path in the world.
