Escogí una escuela privada por el gran retroceso de mis hijas en una escuela del estado. Desgraciadamente todos los distritos escolares se rigen con distintos lineamientos, en los que muchas veces nuestros hijos especiales se ven afectados. Dentro de la educación pública existen maestros que son los extraordinarios, los cuales muchas veces se marchan a otros lugares donde si los valoren. En nuestro caso “perdimos” dos maestras increíbles (una se fue a España y la segunda la perdimos por cambiarnos de distrito). Desgraciadamente mi hija pequeña es la que ha sufrido más el estar con maestros que solo están ahí por el sueldo. Había escuchado sobre los fondos ESA y por una u otra razón había dejado pasar la oportunidad y mi chiquita fue la que pagó las consecuencias. Gracias a Dios ahora las dos están por gozar de una educación de mayor calidad. Los programas de las escuelas públicas actúan como si nos hicieran un favor, a diferencia de las escuelas privadas donde los programas y actividades extra curriculares son más ricos y nutridos.
El derecho de un niño es tener EDUCACION pero no cualquiera, merecen una muy buena educación. La responsabilidad de los padres es hacer que esto suceda; con programas como ESA nos ayudan a cumplir el compromiso y la responsabilidad de criar seres humanos de calidad y ciudadanos responsables. Lo triste de las escuelas publicas es que los mismos profesores etiquetan a nuestros hijos y lo peor es que los padres lo descubrimos cuando el daño ya está hecho. Recomiendo ampliamente que los padres hagan valer los derechos de los hijos como estudiantes. Tienen derecho a una Educación de Calidad y muchos distritos no cumplen con esto. Me considero una Mamá que se involucra con la educación de sus hijas, maestras y miembros de las escuelas publicas a donde asistieron mis hijas me conocían ya por MI nombre, deje de ser “La Mamá de…” para convertirme en “Edna, la Mamá de Frida y Renatta” parecerá tonto pero la realidad es de que con tantos niños y padres de familia esto es un logro pues dejas de ser un Papá más para convertirte en “EL PAPÁ O LA MAMÁ” me veían todos los días por lo menos 30 min. Con cada una de las maestras de mis hijas, después de esto comenzaba mi día laboral. Tristemente al estar involucrada con el avance de mis hijas me di cuenta de las carencias académicas de las mismas y más tristemente me di cuenta de que jamás serían “full filled”. Y esto no estaba relacionado directamente con las maestras, esto es por el sistema público escolar tan roto que tenemos, cuando cambiamos de distritos me di cuenta de todas los “cracks” en el sistema y el gran retroceso del aprendizaje de mis hijas, fue ahí cuando pensé en hacer algo al respecto y lo hice! La mejor decisión que pude haber tomado fue llevarme a mis hijas a escuelas privadas.

I consider myself a mom who gets involved with the education of her daughters, teachers, and members of the public schools where my daughters attended. They already knew me by my name. I stopped being “The Mom of …” to become “Edna, Frida, and Renatta’s Mom”. It may seem silly but the reality is that teachers know so many children and parents, so this is an achievement because you stop being just another parent. Teachers saw me every day for at least 30 minutes with each of my daughters. After this, my workday began.
