PROGRAM — Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program

My name is Desiree Williams, I am a parent and single mom of a 16-year-old teenager named Kyle.

I was referred to Central Christian School, in Sharpsburg, Georgia by a friend whose son was already attending that school. She remembered that I told her I was looking for a school with smaller class sizes because I feel that my son learns better that way.

At Central Christian School, my son gets the attention he needs and seems to function better in a smaller environment. Not only does the school teach the basic class curriculum for his grade level, but they also use the College-bound Program; This means EVERY student is also taking advanced classes to prepare for higher learning once they have graduated from high school.

Central Christian is also a school where Christian living, basic bible reading, and the word of God are taught. I really appreciate that aspect of the school. I feel that in this day and age, it is important for our youth to have a structured environment. With this structured environment, the children are more likely to stay out of troublesome situations and make better life choices. My son has been attending Central Christian since 6th grade.  I have definitely seen a difference in how he carries himself through his young life.

There are so many things that I love about Central Christian School. One thing, in particular, is the staff. The Principal, Vice Principal, and all teachers that work there including the school counselor are amazing. I can tell that this is not just a job for them, it is their calling. They are very passionate, God-fearing individuals that love each child. They go out of their way to make sure every child gets all the help they need to succeed in school.

I personally have witnessed this on several occasions. They have an open door/ anytime policy that allows us as parents to reach out and talk anytime about our children. The staff is very quick to answer any and all questions/concerns that we may have. Volunteering is recommended, encouraged, and welcomed at Central Christian. The Office Manager, Mrs. Pam McCurry, as well as the other members of the office staff, are absolutely an ESSENTIAL and NECESSARY part of the awesome way that this school has functioned throughout the years.

As a single mom of a teenager, I have endured many struggles, physically and financially, to keep my son in attendance at Central. Mrs. McCurry, Mr. Bill Parsons, and Mrs. Smith are a huge part of making this possible. I am eternally thankful for their support.

It is so important for parents to be able to choose where their children attend school because ALL CHILDREN LEARN DIFFERENTLY. They all have different needs, and being able to have a say in the teaching environment you place them in is crucial to how and what they learn.

When I leave my child at school I am comfortable knowing that they will be in a good environment.  Being able to leave your child in the classroom with the other students, knowing that they are learning and thriving to the best of their ability, and even exceeding the expectations of their educators is the best feeling in the world. EVERY child and PARENT regardless of background and income deserves that.

This makes for better students, which in the future makes better adults. These are the future leaders that we are raising. I am confident when I say I speak for all parents, WE WANT THE BEST FOR OUR CHILDREN. They need all the love support we can give them. That does not just happen at home, it happens at school too. The phrase, “It takes a village to raise a child. ” rings true to this day.

I am thankful for the everlasting love and support that we have received from the people of Central Christian School. They have certainly made a difference in our lives.
