BACK TO STORIES

I was born and raised in Washington, D.C., and am the loving mother of two sons, 23-year-old Jeremy and 6-year-old Jaden. I was a public-school teacher for ten years, and am currently a case manager that helps provide educational and occupational training opportunities for welfare recipients.

My first son, Jeremy, attended Washington Jesuit Academy on scholarship, where he developed into a wonderful young man and was awarded the Men for Others award several years.  He attended Bishop McNamara High School also with scholarship assistance, where at graduation former Attorney General Eric Holder presented Jeremy with the Saint Ignatius Loyola Award.  Jeremy graduated from college this past May.

Seeing the enormous benefits of Jeremy’s private schooling at an early age, I wanted to send my younger son, Jaden, to a private school where he could get an exemplary education as well. I received an Opportunity Scholarship to do so after his public charter school closed last year. Jaden is thriving at Saint Anthony’s, where he is learning in a nurturing environment that will set him up for a lifetime of success.

I taught in public schools for over 20 years. I believe in educational freedom: whether it’s public or private or another alternative, parents are children’s first teachers and they know what is best.
