PROGRAM — School Tuition Organization

My name is Alison Langerman. I became an educator first and foremost because I love learning—when I get to share my epiphany moments with children and see their imaginations take flight I am always overjoyed. Nothing could have prepared me for how much I love my students and for how I am able to create, invent, modify, and enhance lessons just to give them each a chance to reach their full potential.

First Southern Christian School is family. I’m sure many teachers can say that, but I know that for sure. This year many private schools have been hit particularly hard by the changes necessary due to COVID-19. As an art teacher and the last teacher to be hired, I thought for sure that budget cuts would take my job. However, every teacher in the school joined together and decided to take in janitorial duties so that we could have the budget to keep art and music classes going! Every time the sixth-grade teacher comes to take out my trash for me or I see the third/forth combo teacher vacuuming out halls I feel so loved. Family takes care of each other and First Southern has taken care of me simply because we all love our students and want the best education possible for them.

“School choice is an amazing privilege that I wish everyone could benefit from. Every child is so different and has a different learning style and a different personality that responds well under many alternative classroom environments.”

School choice is an amazing privilege that I wish everyone could benefit from. Every child is so different and has a different learning style and a different personality that responds well under many alternative classroom environments. School choice is important to me because I believe every student should have the opportunity to be excited about learning. At First Southern, we have so many students who would be faced with numerous challenges of race, religion, social differences, and simply learning differences that would go unnoticed at a school of a larger size. I’m happy that these students have a school choice.
