PROGRAM — Arete Scholarship

Written by Gabriel’s mother Chantelle Palmisano

Gabriel is five years old. This year we received a scholarship to go to TCA St. Amant. Last year Gabriel was enrolled in a public school for Pre-K and the year was just really hard for us.

He experienced racism at four years old, he was told by the other kids that they could not play with him because he was not the right color. He was called names. As a strong believer in Jesus, he would pray in class and the children would tell him God is plastic. Every day he would come home crying and that would just crush me.

There were many conversations I had to have with him that I never thought I would at his young age. He was starting to believe he needed to change to be liked and was acting out to get attention.

As a single mom with two boys and one with special needs, I could not afford to pay for this school. Receiving this scholarship changed Gabriel’s path in life and has given him a much brighter future.

Every day he comes home talking about Jesus, his friends, and has a smile on his face. His behavior is improving on a daily basis and his confidence is increasing. As a mother, that’s all I want for my children. Receiving the scholarship was truly an answered prayer. We are so grateful that we were given this opportunity.
