U.S. Senator Tim Scott to keynote AFC Policy Summit
Today, we are pleased to announce that school choice champion and long time advocate, U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), will deliver a keynote speech at the 2016 AFC National Policy Summit during lunch on Tuesday, May 17 at the Gaylord National Harbor.
“We know that when parents have a choice, kids have a better chance,” said Scott. “There is an education crisis in America and too many children are being left behind simply because of their zip code. I look forward to discussing the importance of school choice at this year’s policy summit and sharing my vision to empower parents to have the opportunity to choose the best educational option to meet their child’s needs.”
Sen. Scott is a longtime supporter of educational choice and last year introduced a bill to create title I portability, giving parents the power to make educational decisions for their children. He also has been an outspoken supporter of the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program, and he testified in support of the program before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. Scott has also introduced the CHOICE Act, which brings choice to military families and creates IDEA portability.
“Senator Scott is a strong supporter of educational choice and has worked to provide every child a quality education, no matter their background,” added Betsy DeVos, chairman of the American Federation for Children. “We are thrilled he will join us next month at our annual Summit to share what he is doing at the federal level to support school choice and share why he is passionate about the issue.”
Registration for the Summit is still open. Secure your spot today to hear from Sen. Scott, other keynotes and thought-provoking panel discussions. The room block at the Gaylord closes today, so be sure to make your reservations today.
