School Choice Supporters Victorious in Illinois Primary

The American Federation for Children, the nation’s voice for educational choice, congratulates all the school choice champions supported by the Illinois Federation for Children PAC in Tuesday’s primary election. In its first cycle engagement, the Illinois Federation for Children PAC invested more than $440,000 through independent expenditures in state legislative races to support school choice proponents during the June 2022 primary. These key primaries will set up general election opportunities where more legislative districts have a school choice champion representing the voices of families demanding options for their children.

Statement from Nathan Hoffman, Director of State Policy and Legislative Strategy, American Federation for Children:
“Our state has been beholden to teacher unions and their sympathizers for far too long but despite their efforts, school choice remains a popular and increasingly important issue in the minds of Illinois voters. We are looking forward to seeing the continued success of those who share in our mission of providing school choice to more families, especially low-income families, who have long been left behind by the status quo.”

The following winning candidates were supported by Illinois Federation for Children PAC Independent Expenditures:

  • John Cabello HD 90
  • Bill Robertson SD 27
  • Mike Thoms SD 36

At the time of this press release Arin Thrower – HD 66 is down fewer than 100 votes to Connie Cain.

The Illinois Federation for Children PAC also opposed Mark Szula – HD 90.
