School Choice Mentioned in the State of the Union Address

The American Federation for Children, the nation’s voice for educational choice, released the following statement:

Statement from John Schilling, President of American Federation of Children:

“Just yesterday, a study by the Urban Institute found that lower income students in the nation’s largest private school choice program were far more likely to attend four-year colleges and earn bachelor’s degrees than their public school peers. This type of option in Florida needs to be expanded to far more Americans, and we were pleased to see the president reaffirm the need to expand school choice across the country.

“It’s our hope that Congress will act swiftly to give more families and children the freedom to pursue educational options that are best suited to their individual learning styles.”
