School Choice Champion Jon Dunwell Wins Iowa Special Election

The American Federation for Children, the nation’s voice for educational choice, congratulates Republican Jon Dunwell for winning the special election for Iowa House District 29. Because of his strong commitment to providing parents with a greater say in their children’s education, the American Federation for Children Action Fund supported Jon Dunwell through independent expenditures on his behalf.
Dunwell supports Governor Reynold’s efforts to increase educational options and parental control in Iowa.
Statement from Tommy Schultz, Chief Executive Officer of the American Federation for Children:
“In the last two years, parental demand for better options and more say in their children’s education has grown dramatically. With Jon Dunwell’s election to the House, Iowa’s parents will have another strong advocate for giving them the chance to choose the best education possible for their children.”
Details:

  • According to unofficial results, Dunwell earned 60% of the vote
  • This victory represents an increase in school choice support in Iowa State House, as the district was previously held by a school choice opponent
