Poll: Two out of three Georgians support school choice

Strong support for creating the Georgia Opportunity Scholarship Program

ATLANTA (Jan. 5, 2015) – Today the American Federation for Children, the nation’s voice for educational choice, released the results of a statewide poll that shows robust support for educational choice programs in Georgia.

“Georgian’s recognize the value and importance of school choice,” said Betsy DeVos, chairman of the American Federation for Children. “These poll results demonstrate what we learned during the midterm elections – Georgia voters want to empower parents by creating the Georgia Opportunity Scholarship Program and strengthen existing educational options.”

The survey of likely general election voters in Georgia, conducted by McLaughlin and Associates, revealed 66 percent support the concept of school choice, and 63 percent support creating a Georgia Opportunity Scholarship Program, which would allow parents to use the money the state has set aside for their child’s education to send them to the public, private or church-run school of their choice. The poll also found 66 percent of voters support charter schools, and 65 percent support the Georgia Tax Credit Scholarship Program.

“Whether it is an Opportunity Scholarship Program, an existing tax credit scholarship program, or charter schools, this poll demonstrates that Georgia voters strongly favor all forms of school choice,” added DeVos.
