Oklahoma School Choice Champions Advance to General Election

The American Federation for Children, the nation’s voice for educational choice, congratulates all the Oklahoma candidates supported by the Oklahoma Federation for Children Action Fund during Tuesday’s primary election runoff election.  The OFC-AF invested more than $263,000 in state races to support school choice proponents during the entire 2022 primary season.

AFC also congratulates Ryan Walters on earning his party’s nomination to State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Secretary Walters has been a fierce supporter of school choice throughout his teaching career and his current role as Secretary of Education.

School choice was a prime issue during Oklahoma’s 2022 legislative session, with Governor Kevin Stitt setting the stage during his State of the State Address on day one of Session. Despite a surge of momentum from parents, the Education Savings Account bill was ultimately blocked by establishment forces.

Statement from Jennifer Carter, State Lead, American Federation for Children-Oklahoma:
“There is no question that Oklahoma families want their children to have the best education options—options that can only be made available through expanded school choice. Now, their voices are being heard at the ballot box where school choice champions are overcoming their status-quo supporting opponents.”

Details:
The following successful candidates were supported in the runoff by the Oklahoma Federation for Children Action Fund:

  • Ally Seifried – SD 2
  • Cody Maynard – HD 21
  • Collin Duel – HD 31
