Nevada State Assembly passes tax credit scholarship legislation
Washington, D.C. (April 1, 2015) – The American Federation for Children, the nation’s voice for educational choice, praises the Nevada State Assembly for passing a bill to create the state’s first private school choice program. With a 25-17 vote, the House passed the Nevada Educational Choice Scholarship Program, which would create a tax credit scholarship serving low-income students in the state.
“We are thrilled that Nevada is one step closer to empowering parents with educational choice,” said Betsy DeVos, Chairman of the American Federation for Children. “We would like to thank Governor Brian Sandoval, Committee Chairwoman Melissa Woodbury and Assemblyman David Gardner for their commitment to offering each and every child quality educational options.”
The Nevada Educational Choice Scholarship Program will create a tax credit scholarship program serving low-income students and families. The program will provide up to $7,755 in scholarship funds for students to attend the private school of their parents’ choice.
