John Huppenthal Defeats Penny Kotterman in AZ Superintendent Race
Republican state Sen. John Huppenthal won the race for Arizona schools superintendent over Democratic candidate Penny Kotterman. The contest offered voters a clear choice between different approaches to public education. During the campaign, Huppenthal, a state legislator for 18 years, touted his history of supporting school choice and education reform.
Kotterman, a former teacher and former head of Arizona’s largest teachers union, promoted herself as a career educator, not a politician.
