Graphic Designer

Job Description

The American Federation for Children is seeking a talented and motivated Graphic Designer to join our dynamic team. As the Graphic Designer, you will play a pivotal role in executing content and building a brand to advance our mission and expand our reach. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in graphic design, with a strong preference for familiarity with other digital and creative software and a creativity and willingness to learn new tasks and creatively achieve goals.

Responsibilities:

Graphic Design: Utilize graphic design skills to create accurate, visually appealing and compelling materials, including content like social media graphics, email templates, infographics, banners, one sheets, presentations, website banners and headers, microbrands for events or initiatives, and other assets. 

Creative Process and Systems: Collaborate with the Creative Director, Communications Team, and staff team, as needed, to manage creative requests and priorities and own completion of tasks.   

Creative Capacity: Collaborate with the Creative Director, Communications Team, and staff team, as needed, to resource external agencies, freelancers, or vendors, for additional graphic or creative work. 

Branding:

  • Champion AFC’s brand, aligning design work and assisting in direction with vendors, other designers, etc. Ensure all content is aligned with AFC’s brand, or the brands of our affiliate organizations. 
  • Create new brands for other projects and partners as needed. Preference given to candidates who possess skills to launch brands.
Take a leadership role in tracking and reporting on metrics and maintaining internal communications portals and document archives. 
 
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including communications, development, and policy, to align digital marketing efforts with overall organizational objectives. 
 
Stay informed about design trends, best practices, and emerging technologies, making recommendations for integration into the organization’s strategies. 
 
Learn and maintain awareness of the public policy space in which AFC operates and be aware of AFC’s organizational perspective and messaging on these issues.

Job Requirements:
 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in graphic design, preferably in an agency, non-profit, advocacy, or political organization. 
  • Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or similar tools.  
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines. 
Job Requirements:
 
  • Experience with email marketing platforms and best practices for email campaigns. 
  • Some understanding of digital marketing tools. 
  • Some understanding of social content and social platforms. 
  • A passion for education reform and appreciation for the importance of public policy engagement.
