Iowa Senate Passes Educational Choice Legislation

This evening, the Iowa State Senate passed SF 159 by a 26-21 vote. The legislation is a comprehensive education reform package which expands charter schools and public school open enrollment, doubles the tuition tax credit for parents, and creates an Education Savings Account program which will allow families to customize their child’s education.
Statement from John Schilling, President of the American Federation of Children:
“On behalf of Iowa families, we want to thank the Senate for passing legislation to expand opportunities for families to customize their child’s K-12 education. Governor Kim Reynolds has been a tremendous advocate for educational choice this year and we thank her for supporting families over the special interests that have ignored the pleas of families in reaction to the pandemic.”
