Iowa Legislature Adds $2 Million to State’s Tax Credit Scholarship Program

Today, the Iowa legislature added $2 million to the state’s existing tax credit scholarship program, raising the cap from $13 to $15 million. Based on current distributions, this will result in scholarships for nearly 1,800 more students, allowing them to attend a school of their family’s choice.
Statement from John Schilling, President of the American Federation for Children:
“Every dollar matters when so many lower income families are looking for additional educational options for their children. We applaud Iowa lawmakers for recognizing the demand and putting families first. We thank Senator Randy Feenstra and Representative Lee Hein in particular for their efforts to expand opportunity for more children in Iowa.”
