Heidi Cruz to lead Texas efforts for the American Federation for Children

The American Federation for Children (AFC) is pleased to announce that Heidi Cruz will be the chairwoman of the Texas Federation for Children, a project of AFC. The American Federation for Children, the nation’s largest educational choice advocacy organization, released the following statement:

Statement from Bill Oberndorf, Chairman of the American Federation for Children: 

“It is my pleasure to announce that Heidi Cruz will be leading our efforts in Texas to give families, particularly lower income families, the freedom to choose the best K-12 education for their children. Her deep background in public policy and finance will be a tremendous asset to our critically important work in the state for years to come.

“As we continue to build out our Texas Federation for Children Advisory Board, we are recruiting an ideologically diverse board in Texas that will lead the charge in supporting public school choice, public charter schools, private school choice, virtual education, and other methods for delivering a quality K-12 education for children.”

Heidi Cruz is a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs. She has previously been the Economic Director for the Western Hemisphere in the White House’s National Security Council, along with other key positions in the George W. Bush administration. Cruz is a graduate of Claremont McKenna College (BA), Université libre de Bruxelles (MA), and Harvard University (MBA). She is married to U.S. Senator Ted Cruz and they have two daughters, Caroline and Catherine.
