Former Speaker Boehner to address AFC Summit attendees
Today, the American Federation for Children is pleased to announce the Honorable John Boehner will speak at the 2016 National Policy Summit, “Teach Choice,” at the Gaylord National Harbor on Monday, May 16 and Tuesday, May 17.
“School choice is a personal issue to me,” said Boehner. “Educational choice programs across the country and right here in D.C. are making a difference in the lives of disadvantaged children. I welcome the opportunity to speak to all of the school choice advocates and allies at AFC’s Summit and share why educational choice is such a critical issue.”
“Throughout his years in office, Speaker Boehner was a champion on behalf of children seeking educational opportunity,” said Betsy DeVos, chairman of the American Federation for Children. “His steadfast support of the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program has helped more than 6,000 children from low-income families in our nation’s capital access a quality education. We are thrilled to be able to welcome and honor him at the Summit for his outstanding work empowering parents and advocating on behalf of children.”
For 11 years, Speaker Boehner put his full support behind the D.C. OSP and worked tirelessly to reauthorize and fund the program to provide as many children as possible the opportunity to attend a quality school. During the 2015-16 school year, over 1,200 students are enrolled the program.
