Choose your school season in Louisiana

ItULExpo’s choose your school season in Louisiana. Parents across the state have been attending open house events, fairs and expos to learn about their school choice options.
One of the largest school choice events is the annual Urban League of Greater New Orleans Schools Expo held in the Mercedes Benz Superdome. This year’s expo drew approximately 3,000 families, 114 schools and 89 community organizations.
New Orleans parents have what many consider to be the widest selection of the school choice options in the nation, including public charter schools, private schools through the Louisiana Scholarship Program and Tuition Donation Rebate Program, as well as traditional public schools.
“In New Orleans’ open enrollment environment, where school assignments are made through the OneApp common application, this expo allows parents to meet and talk to education providers,” said Ann Duplessis, president of the Louisiana Federation for Children.
“We are seeing parents who are now more informed, empowered and engaged in the education of their children,” she added.
On Saturday, Baton Rouge area parents had the opportunity to explore their school choice options at the Urban League’s Achievement Zone 2016 Schools Expo.
