Celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Washington, D.C. (Jan. 18, 2016) – Today the American Federation for Children, the nation’s voice for educational choice, today celebrates the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
“Dr. King spent his life fighting to ensure every American had equal opportunity in their lives,” said Kevin P. Chavous, founding board member of the American Federation for Children. “We honor his legacy and acknowledge that we continue that fight today in the effort to help millions of minority students have an equal opportunity in their education. Too many students, many from low-income families, are assigned to an underperforming school and we must continue to challenge the status quo to give every child the access a quality education of their parents’ choice.”MLK
Tomorrow Martin Luther King III, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s son, will speak at a rally supporting school choice in Florida and the state’s tax credit scholarship program that serves nearly 80,000 low-income students. King will be joined by Bishop Victor Curry, of New Birth Baptist Church in Miami who is also a past president of the Miami-Dade NAACP; Rev. H.K. Matthews, a longtime Florida civil rights activist; and Rev. R.B. Holmes of Tallahassee.
