Arizona Families Take to the Capitol to Show Support for Educational Choice

PHOENIX (March 20, 2014) – The Arizona Federation for Children, the state’s voice for educational choice, and 20 Arizona parents and children attended the Senate Education Committee meeting today to voice their support for the Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program. Many of the parents who attended are applying for an Empowerment Scholarship Account for the first time and are seeking better educational options and outcomes for their children.
“Arizona’s Empowerment Scholarship Account’s ensures every child has access to a quality, publicly-funded education,” said Kim Martinez, communications associate for the Arizona Federation for Children. “Today’s celebration serves as a reminder that educational choice puts the needs of students first.”
“I want to challenge anyone who opposes Empowerment Scholarship Accounts to come with me to the neighborhoods where…the kids are in failing schools and tell those families they shouldn’t have other options,” said parent Denise Ceballos-Viner
After the Senate hearing, the children accompanied their parents and delivered a Thank You letter to Superintendent of Public Instruction John Huppenthal’s office, to thank him for his efforts to educate Arizona’s parents on the public options they have available when it comes to their child’s education.
